United Kingdom

Witteveen+Bos UK Ltd. is a specialist resilient infrastructure unit and part of the over 1,100 person strong originally Dutch engineering consultancy Witteveen+Bos. Our UK team focus is walking, cycling and air pollution. We are passionate about simple, robust transport standards which lay foundations for safe walking and cycling for everybody.

Taking an integrated approach, we aim to help local communities capitalise on the socio-economic benefits of combining greater transport efficiency with placemaking. Using pictures, words and numbers, we have experience in developing projects which reach out to the hearts and minds of a wide range of stakeholders. Our local UK team are supported by specialist engineers in the Netherlands with UK experience.

Certifications
ISO 9001 is the world's best known and most widely used certification scheme when it comes to quality management systems.

We understand resilience as seeking multifunctionality and co-benefits to society, robustness in data analysis, future-proofing for known challenges and seeking awareness for unknown challenges. We bring an impressive portfolio of expertise including nature-based solutions, neighbourhood-level energy souvereignty, air pollution implementation plans, socio-economic analysis as well as specialist skills in integrating population scale cycling into transport practice (network design, junctions, signalling, maintenance & operations and most importantly safety).

The Dutch approach means putting sustainable design principles into daily working practice:

  • Nature-inclusive and climate-proof design
  • Integration: applying the chain approach
  • Optimisation of functions
  • Social design, based on social sustainability
  • Participation by stakeholders and users
  • Trias principle for sustainable solutions.
