Aktau, meaning ‘white mountain’ in Kazakh, is located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. Aktau is the first office of Witteveen+Bos in Kazakhstan, established in 2001 after a successful project constructing an artificial island in the northern part of the Caspian Sea.

This and other (marine) projects were a very positive impulse for the further development of Witteveen+Bos in Kazakhstan. The second office opened in 2003 in Atyrau, and the third office in Almaty followed a few years later.
