RUP Vijverhof in Boechout

Heritage reimagined for a sustainable future

RUP Vijverhof in Boechout

From closed park to green corridor

In the heart of Boechout lies Vijverhof: a historic estate, currently fenced off from its surroundings. Together with nearby green zones —Van Der Auwerapark, Biesbesbos and the community gardens— it holds the potential to become a connected, walkable landscape.

To unlock that potential, the municipality appointed Witteveen+Bos in 2023 to develop a new Spatial Implementation Plan (RUP) for the Vijverhof area.

Protecting heritage, embracing the future

The RUP aims to preserve and restore the site's heritage: the manor, pond, bridge and mature parkland. At the same time, it opens the park to the public, strengthens the historical landscape, and improves slow mobility routes.

It also explores how the manor can be repurposed for social value, and how new buildings can be integrated into the site in a respectful, sustainable way.

Smart mobility and circular design

The plan promotes sustainable mobility by limiting car traffic and enhancing pedestrian and cycling connections. New buildings must meet high energy efficiency standards and use circular, eco-friendly materials.

Strong analysis and community dialogue

Witteveen+Bos combines technical insight with empathetic stakeholder engagement. They conducted in-depth interviews with neighbours and owners to ensure the RUP reflects local needs.

Their experts also carried out impact studies (heritage, mobility, sustainability), drafted a graphic master plan, and developed the corresponding zoning regulations.

Boechout invests in quality of life

RUP Vijverhof is a blueprint for a liveable future: where heritage, nature and accessibility go hand in hand. It's a strong example of how thoughtful planning, sustainability and participation can reinforce each other.
