Design Review and Supervision: Wastewater Treatment Plants

Due to the rising population in Saudi Arabia, the National Water Company (NWC) anticipated an increase in the country’s production of wastewater. To accommodate this, the capacity of the wastewater treatment plants in Al Kharj and Manfouha needed to be increased to an average influent flow rate of 200,000 m³/day. The increased effluent from the plants was to be used to irrigate public green spaces and for agricultural purposes in the region, reducing the environmental impact and relieving the stress on fresh water supplies.

The project ran for three years, from 2019 to 2022. We provided an expert review of a wastewater treatment plant design made by a third party. Our services also included site supervision during the construction phase of the expansion of the treatment plants.

Witteveen+Bos is actively involved in many projects relating to wastewater treatment in the region, assisting industries and water authorities. Alongside our wastewater experts, we have in-house expertise covering drinking and process water, allowing us to come up with comprehensive solutions to achieve a sustainable water chain.
