Witteveen+Bos: growth with choices

We can look back on a successful year despite a turbulent global context. In 2025, we achieved solid financial results and increased our impact on projects that contribute to a healthy biosphere, society and economy. The results were approved at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on 14 April 2026.

In 2025, our 1,710 motivated employees worked on 4,509 projects in 54 countries. These efforts not only led to concrete project results but also to recognition: we won the Vernufteling prize for applying eDNA in waterbodies, and we received the Cobouw50 Award for best performing engineering firm.

‘These results are the product of eight decades of knowledge development, sustainable collaborations, and the daily work of expert and curious colleagues,’ explains managing director Wouter Bijman. ‘They confirm that our strategic course and our strength as a collective are helping us make relevant contributions to the transitions our society needs.’

Financial results

Our success in 2025 is reflected in our financial results, which include an own revenue of EUR 196.7 million and a net result of EUR 22.5 million. Compared to 2024, our revenue grew by more than EUR 25.6 million (14 %), whereas our net result was EUR 806,000 lower. We saw costs increase faster than revenue in 2025, which can be explained by our targeted investments in internal transition agendas (biodiversity and climate; digitalisation), our acquisition of Maidl Tunnelconsultants GmbH, employee growth (from 1,578 to 1,710), and investments in new offices.

‘Strong financial results give us the freedom to make choices, and we have made those choices deliberately. Above all, they give us room to make choices, and we have made those choices consciously. We are heavily investing in people, knowledge and transitions, even when it affects our results in the short term. Particularly in times when everything is happening all at once, you want to be the one providing direction, not following. That requires focus as well as the courage not to do some things.’

Strategic pillars and impact areas

To ensure a successful future, we are focusing on a reliable foundation, a safe and healthy work environment, and high-quality growth, so that we can preserve our culture, retain the cohesion between our PMCs, and ensure our profitability. In the years ahead, we will continue building our future around three core pillars: Talent and Knowledge, Organisation and Culture, and Portfolio (clients and projects).

In 2025, we analysed our existing portfolio in greater depth, gaining insight into how much it aligns with six impact areas. These areas are Clean Drinking Water and Sanitation, Sustainable Built Environment, Sustainable Mobility and Infrastructure, Healthy Habitats, Climate Adaptation, and Energy Transition.

Wouter Bijman: ‘Our current portfolio aligns well with the six impact areas. We want to further increase the balance and synergy within it. Some impact areas still offer us many new market opportunities, whereas in others we already have a solid position. The impact areas enable us to take the lead more and generate greater impact across our business lines, resulting in a more robust portfolio and more diverse client base.’

80th anniversary

Witteveen+Bos was founded on 1 January 1946 by engineers Goosen Bos and Willem Witteveen. In 2026, it celebrates its 80th anniversary. Wouter: ‘In all those years, we have determined our own course. That means we are constantly adjusting and refining, but we do that based on what works well for us and what suits us. With stable growth and long-term, highly valued client relationships as a basis. And, of course, with a love for our profession and a desire to have a positive impact. I think the developments and results of 2025 confirm that we are still succeeding in doing that.’
