Nefit Bosch's new research and development centre in Deventer was officially opened today. This brings the unique GROHW-chain, in which hydrogen will be produced, distributed and consumed on site, one step closer to reality. Witteveen+Bos is the initiator of GROHW and responsible for its design.

Heating manufacturer Nefit Bosch is testing hydrogen-powered heating appliances in Deventer. The necessary hydrogen is supplied by the energy company Essent in a tanker truck and distributed via a hydrogen receiving station.

Meanwhile, Essent, Firan and Witteveen+Bos are working hard to further scale up GROHW (‘Green Oxygen Hydrogen and Wasteheat’). By the end of 2026, the first part of a local hydrogen network should be in place here, which other companies in the area will also be able to use – a unique development in the Netherlands.

‘It is good to see that the partners have come this far with GROHW, the initiative that our company set up in 2018,’ says Raphaël van der Velde, Business Unit Manager Energy Systems at Witteveen+Bos.

‘It started as a blueprint for a scalable design that could be widely applied. First with a pilot project to use both heat and hydrogen for building heating. And now with a full-scale installation for green hydrogen and, at a later stage, oxygen production for local industry.’
