Chemicals in everyday life

There are more than 21,000 chemical substances registered for the European market. These hazardous materials can pose risk due to their flammability, explosiveness or harmful effects on people and the environment. At the same time, a large number of hazardous materials form part of modern-day life, as we use them in and around  our house, or they form the building blocks of the products we use regularly, such as cars, smartphones, fuels, cleaning agents etc. Much legislation exists to enable the safe production, use and disposal of chemical substances. However, this legislation can conflict with environmental legislation and is continuously updated.
