The story of Tom Nijenhuis

‘The atmosphere is informal, the work professional. To me, that typifies Witteveen+Bos.’

I never thought I would get to make so many beautiful things. For the Geo Media & Design course at Aeres University of Applied Sciences, I did an internship in the Digital Support department of Witteveen+Bos.

For six months, I had every opportunity to learn to work better with ArcGIS Enterprise, the W+B-wide GIS platform. I love using these tools to tell a story, to communicate through maps and data. A fantastic project was the Permit Viewer, in which we accessed data from different sources and combined them in a viewer. I also worked on a project for our Singapore office by adding additional data to a GIS viewer of all of Singapore.

Meanwhile, I have completed my internship. Halfway through, I already knew I wanted to stay. And now, that is actually possible: I will keep working here one day a week. For me, this is ideal while I complete my studies. And also a lot of fun, because I remain part of a super team. The atmosphere is informal, the work professional. To me, that typifies Witteveen+Bos.
