The story of Marieke Verbunt
'One of the things I enjoy most is working on a variety of projects. In these projects I switch between process and content and that makes it varied and challenging.'
As a spatial planning and permits consultant, I advise clients in going through planning procedures to realize projects. In practical terms, this means that I write zoning plans, prepare and apply for permits, and assess whether a design fits in with its surroundings from a planning perspective. The common thread in my work is maintaining an overview of the big picture and managing the interfaces between different disciplines. It is a dynamic field of work that will become even more dynamic with the changes brought about by the new Environment Act.
I have a background in urban planning (University of Nijmegen). After finishing my master I traveled through Scandinavia with a camper for several months. During this vacation I was approached via my LinkedIn messages to take a look at the vacancies at Witteveen+Bos, and that's how the ball got rolling.
I have now been working here for 1.5 years with great pleasure. One of the things I enjoy most is working on a variety of projects. In these projects I switch between process and content and that makes it varied and challenging. These range from a new housing estate in an urban environment and the renovation of quay walls and bridges, to the installation of small wind turbines.
By working with colleagues from many different fields, I also learn a lot about these other fields. I have colleagues at the office, but also colleagues from the PMC with whom I work a lot, who are spread across all offices in the Netherlands. This makes it fun to work from a different office than the one I work from in Breda.
