Urban development study for campus for Aventus

Connecting educational function with public space

Urban development study for campus for Aventus

Aventus is a school for secondary vocational education and adult education, located at the De Kien city campus in Deventer, among other places. At this central location, the school wants to merge a second branch with its current accommodation on the city campus. In collaboration with the adjacent Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the ambition has arisen to create a joint campus area.

In this urban infill study, Witteveen+Bos investigated, among other things, how the educational functions could be connected to the public space as much as possible. This would enable the campus to become a place in the city where people enjoy coming together, meeting each other and spending time.

Urban development preconditions map

An important part of the design process was co-creation with local residents, so that the residents of Deventer would also experience the added value of the campus renewal. Together, we drew up an urban development preconditions map to represent the wishes of all stakeholders as effectively as possible. The preconditions map lays down the basic rules for the expansion of the site, thereby safeguarding the various interests.
