Toolkit for parent-friendly and child-friendly public spaces
In the early years, parents of young children need peace and quiet, support, social contact and a familiar environment. Yet many parents, particularly mothers, experience a lack of local social networks. This raises the question: how can public spaces be made more attractive for parents with young children?
Witteveen+Bos and Wageningen Municipality joined forces and collaborated with students from Wageningen University on a two-month design research project to explore how public spaces could be made more parent-friendly and child-friendly. The project examined how the landscape, social infrastructure and public spaces could be optimally utilised to make public spaces more attractive for parents with young children aged between zero and four years.
