Timber Terminal in the Free Port of Ventspils

Witteveen+Bos Latvia was commissioned by the Free Port of Ventspils Authority to carry out the construction supervision during the construction of a timber terminal in Ventspils.

This development phase of the terminal consists of construction of a 350-metre long quay wall and 5 ha of stock yard, both designed earlier by Witteveen+Bos Latvia. A first for Latvia is that the project includes the preloading of newly refilled sand to speed up predicted settlements. Also the construction of the quay wall was innovative, including materials saving solutions and river bed protection measures.
