Steel pedestrian bridge connects car park with VITA Scheldebad

The new swimming pool in Temse - VITA Scheldebad - has been in use for some time. Witteveen+Bos worked in close cooperation with the municipality to produce a design for car parking on Rik De Rycklaan to resolve local parking issues as well as provide a safe access route from the car park to the swimming pool.

The car park design offers space for seventy-five vehicles and maximises the use of infiltration. For example, we used permeable concrete grass blocks to ensure car park permeability and integrated a Wadi system. Electric charging points were also installed.

The car park is linked to the swimming pool via a steel bridge of 24 m. We compiled a team of experts, including structural and geotechnical engineers and designers to produce a simple, stylish and sleek design. The result focuses on maximising pedestrian safety, while minimising steel use.

Correct and safe on-site construction monitored by the civil engineering expert and contractor resulted in a pedestrian bridge that is a seamless match for the initial design. Witteveen+Bos monitored the construction closely.
