Solar park at former landfill
Solar park at former landfill
Waste and energy company Twence has built a solar park at a former landfill in Zenderen (Overijssel). The energy generated by it will supply around 3,800 households in Twente with electricity. Witteveen+Bos was responsible for contract preparation and tender supervision, devoting specific attention to landscape integration and connections with the existing energy supply.
Efficient use of generated energy
The solar park produces sustainable electricity, about 15 % of which is used in Twence’s manure recycling plant. Because this energy is used locally, loss of the generated electricity due to transport is minimised.
Technical and landscape integration
We technically assessed the design and then refined the contract to ensure the solar park fit in with the surrounding landscape and was barely visible. This involved considering cable routes, inverters, safety zones, and accessibility for maintenance.
Result
The resulting solar park combines sustainable electricity generation with landscape quality and efficient energy use, exemplifying how energy and location can effectively complement one another.
