Master Plan, Design and Supervision: Khalifa Port

The Khalifa Port is the gateway to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. The port has a strategic location which facilitates global trade, connecting Europe and the West with the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Both the Khalifa Port and the infrastructure within the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) were being expanded by Abu Dhabi Ports Company PJSC when, in October 2019, this company awarded us with the contract for the combined wastewater (CWW) master plan study and supervision of construction at the Khalifa Port. The purpose of the contract was to develop a new CWW network master plan in line with the current and planned expansion of the port. Our services included reviewing the existing CWW infrastructure, analysing options for CWW expansion (resulting in three concept design options), preparing a schematic design of the preferred concept (including the results of hydraulic calculations and technical and performance specifications), and supervising construction carried out by Dar Al Handasah Nazih Taleb & Partners.

Originally from the Netherlands, for more than 75 years we have built up expertise in infrastructure design, marine environments, coasts and ports. We hold a certificate as Environmental Consultant in Dubai, meaning we are authorised to carry out environmental services aimed at contributing to a safe and resilient coastline. For several port authorities – such as Sohar Port, Abu Dhabi Ports and the Port of Duqm – we provide design and engineering services.
