Leeghwater Bridges A and B

After almost sixty years, the two Leeghwater Bridges in the southern section of the Alkmaar ring road (N242) are ready for a major overhaul. The North Holland provincial authority awarded the contract for the performance of major maintenance work to SPIE Nederland B.V.. By performing reliability and availability calculations, Witteveen+Bos contributed to optimisation of the design with respect to availability, allowing road users and shipping traffic to make maximum use of the bridge within the defined parameters.

Preliminary design phase and executive design phase

As part of this project, Witteveen+Bos is advising and supporting SPIE on various matters, including demonstrating the availability and reliability performance of the two bridges. We were involved in the process from the preliminary design phase through to the executive design phase. In the first phase of the project, the wishes and requirements were analysed and discussed with the client. Witteveen+Bos performed the reliability and availability calculations, including providing support to the designers in developing design solutions and offering advice on the stocking of parts.

'Advice was given on which parts should be kept in stock in order to maintain the services provided in the future'
