Master plan for Enschede Crematorium memorial park
Enschede Crematorium is an important and valued location in Twente for saying goodbye to loved ones. The crematorium is beautifully situated in the countryside. Witteveen+Bos has designed a master plan for the site with the following core values: further developing the existing memorial park and creating conditions for sustainability.
The crematorium is undergoing development, wants to become more sustainable and has a strong desire to make the outdoor space even better suited to the new needs of its guests. With these wishes as a starting point, the team of Witteveen+Bos have drawn up a master plan on behalf of Crematoria Twente, the owner of the crematorium in Enschede.
Optimal use of nature and landscape
In drawing up this master plan, optimal use was made of the existing nature and park. We have made this concrete by:
- creating a central space with an emphasis on openness;
- moving the focus of parking and logistics to the edges of the site;
- building a new reception pavilion as a meeting place in the memorial park;
- designing indoor spaces and terraces to face the park;
- creating additional uses for the park by constructing new paths.
Foundation for investment and development
This master plan contains a spatial framework that provides guidance when making decisions about real estate and site design. The master plan includes structural choices focused on the design and positioning of the site and buildings. The plan thus provides a foundation for substantiating and realising investments and development in the coming years.
