Bankable feasibility study for wind farm in Aceh

Renewable energy developer Infunde Development Pte plans to construct a wind farm in North Sumatra. A consortium led by Witteveen+Bos and featuring Pondera, Rebel and Bita Bina Semesta was awarded and has since completed the bankable feasibility study for this project, which will be named The Aceh Wind Farm.

The study was completed in September 2023 and included site investigations, geotechnical and seismic assessments, wind resource studies, project lay-out and conceptual designs, cost estimates, a transmission study, construction planning, and business case development.

LiDAR

What is special about this project is that the wind farm will be constructed in a challenging area: a mountainous forest with almost no existing infrastructure – no electricity, no water and no roads. To plan the construction of roads, our experts used an innovative technique called LiDAR. LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging and uses infrared or ultraviolet light to accurately determine terrain elevations, even at locations featuring dense forests. The results provided by LiDAR allowed us to accurately plan the construction of infrastructure while sparing primary forest.

Future-proof

In light of the local electricity demand and infrastructure, 55 MW is currently the maximum capacity of the wind farm. However, the plan we developed allows for an increase to a maximum capacity of 96 MW to accommodate increasing demand.
