During the Vernufteling awards ceremony on Thursday 11 June, Witteveen+Bos was announced to have won the audience award for its project on the removal and destruction of PFAS from wastewater. This means we have won the audience prize twice in a row. In 2025, we also won the jury prize, which this year went to a project by Aveco de Bondt.

The project ‘PFAS removal and destruction from wastewater’ won following an online vote, in which voters could choose from eleven submitted projects. The project involves an innovative approach, in which PFAS are removed from wastewater using a DEX filter (with the reusable agent DEXORB), after which the PFAS filtrate is dried so that it can then be mechanically destroyed using a ball mill. This process destroys up to 98 % of this persistent contamination. This new combination of techniques can help solve a significant challenge for water managers. For this award winning project, we collaborated with STOWA, the Hollandse Delta Water Authority, the Brabantse Delta Water Authority, the Zuiderzeeland Water Authority, Waternet, Evides Waterbedrijf, Renewi, the Province of South Holland, KWR Water Research Institute and AD eco advies.
