This week Raphael van der Velde (Energy Systems PMC leader at Witteveen+Bos) spoke at the annual event of Think East Netherlands. This year the event, which took place during the European Week of Regions and Cities, focused on energy storage and management solutions. The day included presentations on exciting innovations in hydrogen, smart grids, batteries, and mobility solutions. Raphael spoke on behalf of Witteveen+Bos about our role as an initiator in the energy transition and circular economy, using the Green Refinery project as an example. He explained how we can be the bridge between policymakers and ambitions, on the one hand, and society and implementation on the other.

Effective energy storage and management solutions will play a crucial role in the transition to a fully sustainable, clean energy supply. Solar and wind energy, for example, can only be used if sufficient storage options and smart grids are available, for only then will the necessary flexibility in energy supply and demand be present. Batteries and alternative fuels, such as hydrogen, are just two potential storage solutions. For an impression of the Think East Netherlands event, visit: https://thinkeast.nl/video/.
