Ten years of knowledge sharing with impact
Ten years of knowledge sharing with impact
In 2015, Sebastiaan Schep came up with the idea of sharing knowledge about system analysis more widely. That ambition became reality with the Aquatisch Ecologische Systeemanalyse (AES) course. The course, run under the banner of PAO Techniek en Management (PAOTM), has since become a household name in the world of water management.
The tenth anniversary of AES called for a festive moment. Sebastiaan, Bob Brederveld and Maarten Ouboter, teachers from the very beginning, were put in the spotlight by PAOTM. The anniversary course shows how Witteveen+Bos wants to stay close to practice. As an organisation, we are committed to translating complex material into knowledge that can be applied in practice. Sharing knowledge makes a difference, as Sebastiaan puts it:
'Sometimes you just have to dare to share your expertise, even if it feels daunting. Often, such a step proves to be the most inspiring, both for others and for yourself. You also stay sharp yourself thanks to the many practical questions that come up during a course. That way, you keep your own knowledge up to date.'
In the world of system analysis and water management
The course meets a clear need among water boards and consultancies: greater insight into how aquatic ecosystems function. In four intensive days – both in the regular course and in-company – students learn to perform a system analysis themselves using the Ecological Key Factors: from data analysis to practical advice.
Bob about the course:
‘The course clearly meets the needs of the field: professionals want to better understand how ecosystems work. The subject matter is complex, but that is precisely what makes it challenging for us as teachers to keep the story clear and practical.’
Marleen Oostdijk of PAOTM emphasises the pleasant collaboration with Witteveen+Bos:
‘Sebastiaan, Bob and Maarten know how to make complex ecological material accessible, and the students greatly appreciate their enthusiasm and commitment. We can always count on their professionalism – from preparation to implementation.’
Dare to share your knowledge
Do you have knowledge or expertise that you would like to share? Consider a course, a guest lecture or your own programme. PAOTM is always looking for new teachers and course leaders. Sebastiaan and Bob are happy to tell you how they approach this and what it yields – for yourself and for practice.
