Witteveen+Bos to support RWS in massive undertaking
Over the next four to six years, Witteveen+Bos is going to collaborate with Rijkswaterstaat under two framework agreements. The main objective: the huge task of modernising Dutch infrastructure. On 30 September, the start of the collaboration was celebrated by the consultancy and engineering firms involved and Rijkswaterstaat in the Topshuis building on the Neeltje Jans artificial island.
‘With the new collaboration agreements PPB 2 and ID 2, we’re taking an important step towards predictable project realisation, sustainable market collaboration, and improved quality on infrastructure projects,’ explains Rijkswaterstaat.
Over the coming years, a number of consultancy and engineering firms will support Rijkswaterstaat with expert knowledge on developing plans, comparing solution pathways, and providing specialist advice. These services will be complemented by expertise in project control, system-oriented contract management, and integrated safety.
Highest score
Under the PPB 2 collaboration agreement (or ‘SROK PPB 2’), which concerns project and process control, Witteveen+Bos will work on the lot concerning integrated safety. ‘We’ll be supporting Rijkswaterstaat in ensuring safety throughout all aspects of construction and maintenance projects, thinking in terms of the entire life span of the object,’ explains Rick van den Belt, team leader for Integrated Safety at Witteveen+Bos.
Under SROK ID 2, which concerns engineering services, Witteveen+Bos will work on the lot for engineering services on projects and programmes as well as the lot for technical advice. ‘We achieved the highest score for both lots,’ explains Ben Strating, framework agreement manager for SROK ID.
‘We also qualified for all focus areas in lot 1 – roads, hydraulic engineering, tunnels, movable works, concrete, steel structures – and almost all fields of knowledge in lot 2. We’re excited about working further on challenging multidisciplinary assignments for Rijkswaterstaat in the coming years, and we look forward to receiving requests for specialist advice – for example, on asset management as a core process.’
Learning together faster for better solutions
‘The ID 2 and PPB 2 SROKs stimulate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint innovation, so that together we can learn faster and develop better solutions. This is crucial in light of the huge maintenance task currently facing the Netherlands,’ explains Wouter Bijman, managing director of Witteveen+Bos.
Director Infrastructure and Mobility Leonie Koops: ‘The SROKs are essential for keeping the Netherlands safe and accessible. They give us the opportunity to collaborate with Rijkswaterstaat on developing ingenious solutions for a sustainable and future-proof society. The agreements also provide scope for working further on a healthy industry full of enjoyment and knowledge development!’
