Consortium starts MIRT exploration of A2/N2 Eindhoven
The MIRT exploration of the A2/N2 Eindhoven ring road marks an important step in the further development of the Brainport region. Commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, a consortium consisting of Witteveen+Bos, AT Osborne, Eiffel and Panteia will support the ministry and the province of Noord-Brabant and the municipalities of Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Best and Oirschot in the exploratory study.
Over the next two years, the consulting firms involved will conduct joint research to arrive at a preferred solution based on a careful process. The exploratory study will focus on tackling bottlenecks for through, regional and local traffic on the A2/N2 motorway near Eindhoven, in conjunction with the region's housing construction programme. The flow of freight transport and the accessibility of key economic locations in the Brainport region are also important points for attention.
Solid foundation
Eric Holtrop, project leader at Witteveen+Bos, is looking forward to working with the team: ‘We work well together. Based on our experience and collaboration in previous MIRT explorations, such as A2 Deil-Vught, we are laying a solid foundation for this challenging task. Managing the interfaces with other projects will be an important focus, given the dynamics of the region.’
Collaboration
Environmental manager Erik van der Veen (AT Osborne) emphasises the importance of previous experiences, such as the collaboration on the HOV4 exploration, a high-quality public transport connection between Eindhoven Centre and De Run in Veldhoven. ‘We know the area and the stakeholders well. It is important to involve the community in a transparent and accessible manner, especially in a region where there is a lot going on and participation fatigue is a risk.’
The consortium is committed to solutions that not only improve traffic flow but also contribute to the mobility transition and sustainable development in the region. The consortium will focus on developing supported and feasible solutions that contribute to an accessible and future-proof Brainport area.
