HUB ME-NU! wins competition 'Sustainable Mobility Hub'
Our design philosophy HUB ME-NU! has been elected winner of the sustainable mobility hub competition organised by CROW and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. On behalf of Witteveen+Bos, Hugo Odijk, Simon van Hees and Tom Lodder accepted the award at the National Traffic Engineering Congress.
From the jury report: 'The method developed by Witteveen+Bos literally addresses the question: how do you design a sustainable hub? It is a process map for arriving at a successful mobility hub. The method makes it very clear that designing a hub is tailor-made. Currently, there are no examples where this design process has been applied, but that won't take long.' HUB ME-NU! offers tailored mobility hubs
Mobility hubs play an important role in our future-proof mobility system. Witteveen+Bos has developed the HUB ME-NU! design philosophy to design a mobility hub based on the preferences of end users and stakeholders. With HUB ME-NU! you design a sustainable mobility hub together with users and policymakers in an accessible way.
Bottom-up design philosophy
The design philosophy is a bottom-up philosophy for national, provincial and municipal policymakers and for public and/or private developers of a mobility hub. HUB ME-NU! provides tools to find answers to questions such as:
- 'How do you design the most sustainable mobility hub?'
- 'How do you ensure that the hub has the highest possible social value?'
- 'How do you ensure that the mobility hub continues to function for the long term?
Choosing from the menu together
The concept is of interest to experts and specialists active in the field of active, sustainable and new mobility. HUB ME-NU! can be used to start the conversation about mobility hubs. It involves the end user and other stakeholders in the development of a hub. In doing so, it offers the possibility to design and calculate various variants.
An appropriate operating model of mobility hubs
The design philosophy emerged after analysing existing mobility hubs. These hubs were often designed with 'mobility' as the leading (and often only) functionality. The HUB ME-NU! combines functionalities from different categories. This makes the hub a nice, lively place, offering more than just mobility. Moreover, the combination of different functions facilitates a widely supported operating model.
