Further development of DuboCalc ECI instrument
Rijkswaterstaat has commissioned Netcompany for the management and further development of the DuboCalc tendering instrument for the next seven years, with Witteveen+Bos as partner.
DuboCalc is a software tool for quickly and easily calculating the sustainability and environmental costs of design variants of civil engineering works. It encompasses the entire life-cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to maintenance and demolition. This results in an Environmental Cost Indicator (ECI) value, providing those contractors with the most environmentally friendly design a greater chance of securing the contract. Rijkswaterstaat manages the tool, which is universally used in large tenders. DuboCalc is filled with life-cycle information about materials, enabling the design to be simulated online. For this purpose, DuboCalc uses the National Environmental Database.
For its part, Witteveen+Bos will contribute to the management of older versions of DuboCalc, which will remain available to be able to continue making calculations, in line with contracts from the past. We will also provide the technical knowledge for the further development of a new version of DuboCalc. The LCA knowledge that Witteveen+Bos will contribute as a partner requires, among other things, regular coordination with users and the National Environmental Database. Main contractor Netcompany will manage the software development.
