Ede sewage treatment plant: greener sludge digestion
Ede sewage treatment plant: greener sludge digestion
Ede will be home to the first sludge digestion plant in the Netherlands built with sustainable materials such as biobased insulation and geopolymer concrete. This summer saw the symbolic kickoff of the construction phase: the conversion of an old railway turnout.
The Ede Sludge Digestion Plant of the Vallei & Veluwe Water Authority will provide centralised, circular sewage treatment, converting sewage sludge from the region into green gas and reclaiming CO2. This could supply enough energy for 2,200 households a year. The centralisation process will retire the outdated plants in Veenendaal, Renkum, Woudenberg and Bennekom. This will boost not only efficiency, but also sustainability. A great step forward for the region!
This is a project of the Vallei & Veluwe Water Authority and CLC Water, a collaboration between the ADS Group, Nijhuis Saur Industries, Witteveen+Bos, Pannekoek GWW and Moekotte.
