This summer saw the start of field and soil surveys for cable laying, for connection of the new Meppel North high and medium-voltage substation. TenneT and Enexis Netbeheer are building the substation.

The E-MERGE research consortium (Witteveen+Bos, Antea and Bilfinger) is conducting the field and soil surveys under contract from TenneT. The studies focus on the cable route to loop the Meppel North substation into the existing link between Steenwijk and the existing substation in Meppel.

Carol Vredevoort, E-MERGE Environment Coordinator and Witteveen+Bos employee: ‘We are doing the soil survey, for things like remains from the past, such as remnants of war, how stable the soil is, if it is clean, and if any animals or plants need protection.’
