Coral growth thanks to 3D printing

Witteveen+Bos South-East Asia and JTC Corporation developed concrete coral foundations using 3D Concrete Printing (3DCP). The foundations are being used to stimulate the growth of coral reefs. The process started by studying how natural coral reefs grow, after which the data was coded in the design algorithm. Eight unique patterns were then generated. Each printed coral foundation can be customised to match the natural pattern of the coral reef. In this way, this inventive technology is helping to stimulate biodiversity.
