Reconstruction of Riga Skirotava Mashalling Hump

Skirotava marshalling yard is the main marshalling yard of the Latvian railway network. The yard consists of 26 tracks, which are grouped in three sets of tracks for the splitting-up, formation and preselection of wagons. This project is a part of a global improvement plan of the East-West Railway Corridor, which is the main Latvian freight corridor. It provides access to Latvian ports on the Baltic Sea from Russia and other continental countries.

The scope of works consisted of construction supervision and contract management services in compliance with FIDIC Yellow Book. The project comprised:

  • reconstruction of the tracks in the marshalling yard and shunting equipment, such as switches, point machines and retarders
  • reconstruction of hump top, telecommunication and power supply systems, introduction of noise reduction measures. The existing yard control system MRC was connected with the new system from Siemens MSR32.

Witteveen+Bos Latvia supervised the construction in all fields mentioned above. The project was completed in May 2018.
