Neighbourhood of the Future

With the Neighbourhood of the Future programme, Gelderland is focusing on making neighbourhoods in the province sustainable and free from natural gas. First, ways of making the neighbourhoods gas-free are being investigated. Witteveen+Bos is part of Neighbourhood of the Future’s support team. In this team, we support teams at neighbourhood level in considering how they can implement the energy transition. To do this, we make use of our technical knowledge and expertise and we provide advice on how resident groups can fulfil their wishes in the most affordable way possible.

Together with the local community, affordable ways of saving energy together and sustainably generating heat are also being explored. Making neighbourhoods sustainable and gas-free can involve radical changes. By working together with residents, neighbourhood or town councils, the municipality, grid operators, and/or housing associations, initiatives are created by the community itself and support is generated for the transition.

Implementing the Energy Agreement

The Province of Gelderland wants to work with signatories of the Energy Agreement – such as municipalities, housing associations, energy cooperatives and the business community – to encourage neighbourhood residents to work together to become free from natural gas. In this way, the Energy Agreement is put into practice and initiative is encouraged and support generated in the community.
