Dredging the access channel and outer harbour of Liepaja

Commissioned by Belgian contractor Jan de Nul N.V., Witteveen+Bos Latvia acted as head designer for the design and build contract for dredging the access channel and outer harbour of the port of Liepaja. The design was prepared in two months, after which we supervised the execution of the dredging work for the client, from January to October 2019. The total volume of the dredged soil was approximately 2.8 million cubic metres.

We prepared the design in 3D which saved a lot of time for making multiple cross-sections and calculating amount of dredged soil. The flexible 3D design enables fast adjustments to the dredging limits and updating  dredging volumes when needed. So far this has been the most extensive project in the Port of Liepaja.

In early 2019 Witteveen+Bos Latvia carried out a study for a floating buoy mooring facility in the port of Liepaja. The study consisted of evaluating various possible locations on the basis of a multi-criteria analysis. The analysis used dredging volume, sailing safety, buoyage costs and other criteria.

At the end of 2019, we inspected a dam in the port of Liepaja. The aim was to assess the technical condition of the dam and to estimate the cost of any repair work.
