Dyke Design Advisory Team

Top advice for reinforcement projects

The Dyke Design Advisory Team was established by the Flood Protection Alliance at the end of 2019, to support (dyke) reinforcement projects and the HWBP (High Water Protection Programme) on questions about the application of the flood probability approach and the new knowledge associated with it. The Dyke Design Advisory Team received its hundredth request for advice in January 2021.

The Dyke Design Advisory Team provides independent, fraternal advice from a broad team of specialists with extensive experience in relevant fields, from a range of knowledge institutes, companies, Rijkswaterstaat (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management) and water boards. Witteveen+Bos’ senior experts Arny Lengkeek and Hendrik Meuwese are among the Dyke Design Advisory Team members. They were selected for their knowledge: Arny’s expertise on longitudinal structures, and Hendrik's geohydrology expertise. Hendrik Meuwese: 'As a company, we are represented by two advisers in the team. That’s quite unusual, but it’s not surprising when you consider just how much experience we have gained in dyke reinforcements in recent years at Witteveen+Bos. Some of them have been genuinely groundbreaking.'

The Dyke Design Advisory Team operates in several ways, including providing advice, posing a challenge or sparring. Experiences from the recommendations are compiled regularly in an overview of guiding principles. These principles and further information on the Advisory Team can be found on the website www.adviesteamdijkontwerp.nl.
