Coastal and Riverbank Works

The purpose of ‘wet’ hydraulic engineering structures such as breakwaters, dams, soil protection structures, dike revetments and coastal defence works is to withstand the force of the water. Designing such structures requires creativity and professional expertise. We aim to make the best possible use of the scope available for solutions, and translate the solution(s) selected into a feasible design.

Witteveen+Bos supplies added value for society by developing smart, sustainable and fit-for-purpose solutions. Our seven sustainable design principles help us to achieve this aim, as well as our in-depth knowledge of design rules, materials and working methods. Our expertise in the impact of ice loads on hydraulic engineering structures is leading in the Netherlands. We use off-the-shelf software and design toolboxes developed in-house, and supervise scale model tests. We work on different types of contracts, and assemble multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex projects.
