Circular design

The ‘Circular design’ principle is about making choices for current and future lifecycles, and closing chains by using waste as a raw material in the design. Circular design reduces the depletion of raw materials.

Circular design means making choices for current and future lifecycles throughout the entire process, from the initiation phase, exploration, implementation design, management and maintenance, up to and including the next lifecycle. It means thinking about design and material use at all stages of an object’s life. Designers learn to think in terms of both functional and technical lifespans. It’s also about closing chains by using waste in the design as a raw material.
