GROHW: a blueprint for green hydrogen

Witteveen+Bos, together with businesses and colleges in the Dutch cities of Deventer and Arnhem, is developing a blueprint for the production of green hydrogen as part of the GROHW project. In Deventer, we plan to attempt to introduce green hydrogen into industry, logistics and the built environment.

The hydrogen will be used to store electrical energy or facilitate industrial processes where very high temperatures are applied. The intention is for the design to become a blueprint that can be applied in numerous other industrial areas in and outside the Netherlands. 

The location at which the green hydrogen (and oxygen) will be produced is also going to function as a field lab for the RELEASE project, a research undertaking coordinated by Delft University of Technology. This project concerns the development of new technological possibilities in the area of energy storage, allowing electrical energy to be stored and subsequently used. The Reversible Large-Scale Energy Storage project (RELEASE) focuses on three technologies for both the short term (2030) and long term (2050): hydrogen production, hydrocarbon production from CO2 and flow batteries. The consortium, of which Witteveen+Bos is a member, consists of universities, colleges, businesses and government institutions.
