The value of rainforests

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has commissioned Witteveen+Bos to conduct a study of the ecosystem services provided by the rainforest of Borneo.

This extensive area is of immense significance to millions of people by virtue of the many ecosystem services and products it supports. However, its role as a habitat for orang-utans and a source of local drinking water is now under threat due to deforestation. Our study will help to raise awareness of the value of the ecosystem services provided by the rainforest and will form a basis for more sustainable land usage.
