November 26th a meeting was organised in the Bergkerk in Deventer on the Factory of the Future. During this well attended seminar Michael Braungart, cofounder of the Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) principles, introduced the attendees to concrete industrial projects in Europe and made them familiar with all of the C2C aspects this type of industry had to deal with.
Bill McDonough, the famous architect partner of Michael Braungart also participated in the event through web conferencing and he informed the audience on the Ford Motor Company project in the US and his work for the Chinese government all over China. He mentioned that we can accomplish great and profitable businesses within this new conceptual framework of the Factory of the Future. This project at hands values our legacy, honors diversity, and feeds ecosystems and societies. It is time for designs that are creative, abundant, prosperous and intelligent from the start. Bill expressed that Factory of the Future is a great example of such an approach and that he fully supports this project and the upcoming next phases.
Maarten Veerman, engineer at Witteveen+Bos, introduced the audience to the conceptual model of the Factory of the Future and during the workshop the attendees worked together developing the factory and society of the future. During the breaks there was the opportunity to see the exposition of Geert Mul, media artist and winner of the Witteveen+Bos award for Art+Technology.
