TEC has joined up with international parties to advise the Chinese government on the design and construction of a 35 km long bridge-tunnel combination in the south of China. Besides TEC the consortium comprises American and Chinese engineering agencies.
This project will link the major Chinese economic hubs of Hong Kong and Macau to the Chinese mainland. The project, in the delta of the Pearl River, includes a series of conventional bridges and suspension bridges, several newly created islands and a 6 km long immersed tunnel. The objective is to put the link into service at the end of 2015. This represents a real challenge for a project of this scale.
TEC (Tunnel Engineering Consultants; a consortium of Royal Haskoning, DHV and Witteveen+Bos) will advise the Chinese project organisation on design, construction, sustainability, costs, planning, management and maintenance throughout the project. TEC will continue performing this task beyond 2015. At present, TEC is already involved in the project with an American partner, notably in the evaluation of the conceptual design of the bridges, tunnel and islands.
