Early September 2009 Witteveen+Bos started work on the Mobility Plan and Action Program for Riga and Pieriga for the Latvian Ministry of Transport. The project will set up a mobility plan for the city of Riga and the surrounding region of Pieriga. Both face a variety of traffic problems and bottlenecks in their public transport, road and rail networks, Daugava river crossings and facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
A consortium consisting of Witteveen+Bos, NEA Transportonderzoek- en opleiding and Witteveen+Bos Latvia is carrying out the project in close cooperation with the government and local transport companies. The total project budget comes to €700,000 and work is likely to be completed in summer 2010.
This is the first major international traffic and transport project of this size and complexity that Witteveen+Bos is undertaking. Our Riga office enjoys good cooperation with the client and various local experts. It is a challenge that will demonstrate the benefits of an integral approach to a project.
