Witteveen+Bos approaches the water domain as the entirety of the water cycle and the water system. Our large group of specialists provide advice on water collection, preparation of drinking water, sewer systems, treatment and reuse of waste water, integrated water management, process automation and hydraulic engineering.

Infrastructure

We are working in the following disciplines:

Over the years, road, rail and hydraulic engineering have created national and international infrastructures characterised by their large scale on the one hand and their sophistication on the other. At numerous levels Witteveen+Bos has contributed to this development.

In contrast with huge projects like the North-South metro line in Amsterdam, the Fehmarn Belt crossing between Denmark and Germany , artificial islands in the Caspian Sea and the enhancement of the infrastructure around Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, there are numerous smaller ones that tend to be invisible to the user. But what large and small have in common is the combining of existing and new technologies under highly differing local conditions.

For Witteveen+Bos success stems equally from building the western orbital motorway around Amsterdam, as from a greenfield development of a Black Sea port in Turkey or using relatively simple means to build a tram line in Bucharest.

Environment

Sustainable development necessitates interaction between the spatial development and environmental disciplines. Witteveen+Bos’s specialists in spatial development and environmental issues make a pivotal contribution through their ability and willingness to look beyond the fences of their own domains. From this baseline our experts have helped to complete numerous projects in the Netherlands and other countries. Our activities range from working in distinct fields to assuming integral responsibility, but without losing sight of interfaces with other disciplines. Our overarching approach produces numerous benefits through close cooperation between experts from different parts of our firm.

Construction

We are working in the following disciplines:

Urban areas are in constant development. New residential areas and industrial estates are being constructed on increasingly challenging sites. This includes very low-lying locations such as the Zuidplaspolder (the deepest point in western Europe) and new, artificially created land such as the IJburg residential neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Existing residential areas and industrial estates are being redeveloped and redesigned, giving rise to a number of social, economic, organisational and technical challenges.

Witteveen+Bos can guide these developments from the requirement analysis phase to implementation. We do so by combining our extensive knowledge in project and process management with financial and technical expertise, as well by combining our substantial knowledge of urban areas with that of buildings. Through this, we can create a pleasant and sustainable living and working environment on both the macro and micro level, now and in the future.
